Green Hope’s Green Mission 2011 takes off, one lakh trees to be planted

Metro city  will soon be a ‘Green City’ : Ganeshji Naik
Green Mission 2011, On the occasion of the World Environment day NGO Green Hope launched Green Mission 2011, a tree plantation drive in the city. The NGO plans to plant on lakh trees in the city in the coming year.
The programmed was launched at Ghansoli and CBD Belapur on June 5. State minister Ganeshji Naik, who inaugurated the drive, declared at the programme that his objective is to ensure that city is referred to as the Green City. Naik launched Green Mission 2011 by planting trees at Gharonda ground, near sankalp bus stand in sector 9 of Ghansoli and at sector 15, near jogging track at CBD Belapur.
MLA Sandeepji Naik, who is also the president of Green Hope was present on the occasion along with MP Sanjeev Naik, Mayor Sagar Naik, Standing Committee Chairman Ramesh Shinde, Several city corporators, representatives of various socio-religious organisations, eminent citizens, senior citizens and nature lovers.
Following the launch of the ‘Mission’, members of Environment and Forestation committee form Navi Mumbai ward Advisory Board and office bearers of various religious and social organizations planted around 250 trees.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganeshji Naik said, “Green Hope has been doing a great job of environment conservation and protection by planting trees over the past several years. This time the plan to one again plant one lakh trees in the city to maintain the ecological balance in the region will certainly benefit the citizens.”
Advised Naik, “Once the trees are planted the citizens should take care of the trees.”
On his plans for the city he said, “Measures need to be taken in time to escape the effects of global warming Hence, I plan to develop a green triangle between CBD belapur, Mahape and Parsik Hill. This project will be taken up in consultation with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.”
Informed Sandeepji Naik, “From the year 2008 to 2010 Green Hope planted three lakhs trees. Now the dive under Green Mission will be undertaken in the next three months. We will ensure that the city becomes a Green City.”
Added the MLA, “Green Hope will be organizing water tourism, sky and bird watching trips in the year. We will also be felicitating the individuals and organisations which did a good job preserving trees planted by us last year. This year’s standout initiatives too will be rewarded next year.”
Congratulating Green Hope for its initiative, MP Sanjeev Naik said, “Environment protection and conservation is the moral duty of every citizen. Everyone should come forward and support endeavours as taken up by Green Hope.”
Agreeing with him, Mayor Sagar Naik said, “Green Hope has initiated the movement taking into consideration the future dangers of global warming and other issues. I am glad the residents have come forward to support it. Together we can make it happen.”
