NGO Green Hope’s ‘Green Mission 2011’ is underway in full swing. The aim is to plant one lakh saplings in the coming months. However, planting trees will not suffice. It is also necessary to protect them. It is with this objective that MLA Sandeepji Naik, who heads Green Hope, has announced that ‘tree guards’ will be provided for all the planted trees.
A tree plantation drive was undertaken at the Municipal School located in sector 14 of Airoli this week. The highlight of the programme were attractive sign boards on environment preservation and a colorful rally of standard eight to ten studnts, dressed as traditional ‘warkaris’ accompanied by lazim dancers, undertaking a tree ally. The rally was organsied from sector 14 to 15, Naik  too joined in the rally and appreciated the efforts of the students and the school staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said, “Global warming is a major issue the world is facing today. Hence, growing trees is the best option to help reduce its ill effects. There should be awareness about such issues among the people.”
He added, “There has been immense support from people for this mission. By 2015 we are aiming to make Navi Mumbai a green city. With the cooperation of people and various environmental committees our mission will be a huge success.”
Announced Naik, “Green hope is not only undertaking planting of trees but also ensuring efforts to protect and preserve them. We shall have tree guards for the trees planted so that they can be protected from damge.”
